MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON

It was 25 years ago, I took my 7 year old son along to Ashburton Playing Fields, because a number of his friends were joining a new football organisation called "Addiscombe Little League." He was chosen to play for a team called "The Bullets" and all that we knew was that they played in blue kit. He wasn't really sure what he was letting himself in for (and neither was I!). There were 5 other teams "The Knights", "Vikings", "Motormen", "Terriers" and "Chiefs" (all sponsored by local firms).

You didn't have to be a great footballer to join, the League had qualified referees and they said that sporting behaviour was much more important than winning. Players were loaned their team kit and it was free to play (parents could pay a nominal amount to become members of the League, as this would help pay for the pitches, kit and equipment etc). There was a great sense of community with mums and dads helping out, dads running a line, mums helping with the canteen etc.

My son loved his time at Little League, even turning down school team selection to play for "The Bullets" until he reached league retirement age (13 years). Son number 2, Simon, followed in his brothers footsteps and went a little further, he now manages "The Crusaders" one of the new teams in the League.

That's the thing about Little League - it hooks you! By logging into this site, you are probably already hooked too!!

I am proud of what the league has achieved over the last 25 years. Thousands of children have been kept occupied on Saturday mornings, whether it is in our main League or our rapidly expanding "Mini Soccer" League. For as long as children want to play football and there are people willing to volunteer to make that happen, we will continue.

Finally, I must say a massive thank you to our army of volunteers who have participated over the years, without whom it really wouldn't have been possible.

Welcome to the family!
